National Police of Ukraine

The main activity of the National Police is aimed at preventing the commission of offenses, rescuing people if an offense has occurred, and finding those responsible for this offense.

In addition, the National Police is engaged in security activities, searching for missing persons, regulating traffic, issuing permits for the movement of certain categories of vehicles, etc.

The National Police, while on duty, may:

  • Check the person’s documents;
  • Interview the person;
  • Make a surface check and inspection;
  • Stop the vehicle;
  • Demand to leave the place and limit access to a certain territory;
  • Restrict the movement of a person or a vehicle;
  • Penetrate into housing;
  • Apply automatic photo equipment (radar) and video equipment.

In addition to preventive measures, the National Police may, if necessary, apply coercive measures. That is, psychological or physical influence (force), special means or firearms.
